[admin post] Admin Post: Community Rules + Spoiler Policy + Second Rider... er, Mod

First: [personal profile] girlnamedlance volunteered as a second mod, so say hi to her! If anyone else wants to volunteer for modship, go ahead and let us know. It's true that Lance is a good friend of mine, but that's absolutely not a requirement.

Second! The two of us and another member, [personal profile] steamlace, decided that implementing some informal rules and a spoiler policy might be a good idea. This is subject to change with member input, so if there's anything you disagree with or think should be modified, comment here!

Edit: These rules have now been more or less finalized. They are still subject to change with member input since we don't want to be tyrants.

Don't be a jerk:
Treat others with respect. You don't have to be nicey-nice constantly, but don't be a jerk for no good reason.

Spoilers:
Keep theories or speculation about the current season to the most recent discussion posts.

Please put all spoilery content in posts under a cut. This includes icon previews, commercials, trailers, magazine scans, leaks, and screenshots. Do not put spoilery content in subject lines. Spoilery content here refers to anything that has aired less than two weeks ago (including content that has yet to air).

If you're posting spoilers in a thread, whitetext them with the following code:

Obviously, use your common sense. If you're in an episode discussion post for the newest episode and talking about something that happened in that episode, you don't need to warn for it.

When it comes to older shows, try to avoid spoiling people. We understand that most of the shows more relevant to the US fandom are several years old, but sometimes people just haven’t gotten to them yet. And in the case of many Showa series, they may not have been subtitled in their entirety. Don’t ruin the moments you love for someone else. Try to use episode numbers to tell us where the spoiler lies, or some other indication of how big of a spoiler it is.

Examples: Spoilers for last week's Drive. or Spoilers for episode 48 of W.

Not acceptable: Spoilers for that time Terui cheated on Akiko with Kagami Arata. (Using a fake event so this example won't, ironically, spoil anyone for anything.)

Content Warnings:

Please use content warnings if at all applicable. The big ones are rape (including dubcon), body horror, major character death (whether or not it occurred in canon -- if it's actually a major thing in your post. You don't need to warn for an offhand mention that Character A died a few years back), and extreme violence. The kind of stuff you'd hit the ticky boxes on AO3 for. Please give us an idea of what’s in your story when you post it. Using a header that tells us the title, involved characters/series, a simple summary, and any warnings (both spoilers and content) is a huge plus.

(The prompt meme rules have been amended to clarify that the text in the prompt itself should function as a warning for any fills that may result.)

Icon Posts:

To save on load time, please use no more than 3 preview icons. Warn for spoilers, and don't use any spoilery icons as the previews.

In addition to mentioning which series are in the post, also say which characters are there. Linking to an external journal or comm is okay but please don't friends-lock it after a week, that makes people sad.

Image Posts:

Fanart, scans, and so forth. Anything spoilery or needing a content warning should go under a cut (<cut></cut>). Please keep image sizes to 500px across (adding width=500 height=auto to your img tag will resize without having to re-upload). Do not repost from Pixiv or any other art site without express permission from the original artist (be prepared to provide a screenshot). Linking is perfectly fine!

Copyrighted Material:

If you're posting episodes themselves, or other possibly copyright-infringing material (e.g. novel translations or manga scans beyond just a page or two) please member-lock your post. Toei probably doesn't care about a little English-speaking Dreamwidth community, but better safe than sorry.

Credit and Sourcing:

Please provide credit or sources for any leaked information, fanart, or videos you post. If you see something of yours posted here and you’d like it removed, let us know and we’d be happy to take it off for you.

If there are any problems, get in touch with the mods via the mod contact post. Happy riding!

Wow I am so not a mere secondary rider.

I'm a totally awesome movie-only rider. Get it right.

Or slashbait support character

I guess I should introduce myself. I'm primarily an RPer which is why my journal here seems so naked. I was formerly known as [livejournal.com profile] purplemewit and was fairly active in the FMA fandom back in the day. I have no life so I'll be happy to answer any questions you have at any time, especially when it comes to bridging from tumblr to Dreamwidth (though [community profile] tumblr_refugees is a great resource for that as well).

Welcome!

I would like to see some sort of spoiler policy for inthread things (like the kinkmeme and any future things like that). For the kink meme, spoilers could be white-texted (like [white text] or something) or perhaps put in replies to the top-level comment so "view top-level comments only" would be a safe way to browse. And what's the policy on possibly copyrighted media? Should it be avoided or locked? Other than that, everything looks pretty good to me. How about making a mod contact post in the community that all the mods can track (at least top-level comments of)?

I also think having a mod contact post would be a good idea!

Also this might not be the best place to ask, but do you think a friending meme would be a good idea? I could make one if you wanted.

Thank you for the rules!
Just a question : Does the 500px rule applies to pictures under a cut as well? I understood it that way but I prefer to make sure :).
Of course it's better to keep a reasonable size but it might be a bit small for some highly detailled wide pictures. Though, a link can be provided in those cases, I guess...

Thank you for answering! It sounds good that way :).
